Man charged with drunk driving, pedestrian pinned under vehicle

A 53-year-old man has been charged in connection with an incident that pinned a 31-year-old woman underneath his vehicle. Police say the Easton resident has been charged with drunk driving and vehicular aggravated assault after he allegedly ran over the woman outside a Bethlehem hotel in July. The woman suffered major injuries and spent four months in the hospital.

Police in Pennsylvania claim that the accused drove his vehicle over the curb hitting the hotel and striking the woman who became caught under the vehicle. It took about 20 minutes for rescuers to lift the vehicle off the woman by using air bags. She was taken to the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

The woman suffered a lacerated bladder. Her pelvis was also shattered. Her elbow and shoulder were dislocated and she also suffered ligament damage, a broken arm as well as other injuries. She spent more than 10 days hospitalized after which time she was taken to an in-patient rehabilitation facility for about three months. She is apparently still using a wheelchair.

Being charged with drunk driving in which others are seriously hurt is a serious and potentially life-changing event. Pennsylvania residents who are facing such charges may want to get the help of an experienced defense attorney for assistance in mounting the most aggressive defense possible. There is much at stake in such instances such as facing possible jail time, stiff fines, loss of a driver’s license, hiked insurance rates, not to mention having to face the social stigma of a conviction.
